Friday 18th May
Martin Harley Band
Kola//Moteh Parrott
Fresh home from a trip across the pond to the US, the Martin Harley Band have brought back more than duty free and jet lag: a management deal and a new record due for release in 2012 fill the luggage of the hard touring British singer, slide guitarist and front man Martin Harley.
Two years after the release of highly praised album “Drumrolls For Somersaults”, the band will be releasing their new EP “ Barebones ” in April, to coincide with the bands UK tour in 2012. “ This EP was a goodbye to my lodgings in sunny Guildford. I’ve lived in one room for the last five years so before I left, we thought we’d record an intimate low fi EP... They really are bedroom takes ” explains Martin.
This will be coupled with a single from the next full Martin Harley Album recorded in Texas over the last few months. “Continuous touring, hair-brained schemes including gigs up very high mountains, long distance tours by bicycle, treks across Mali in search of the Blues roots, as well as being invited to be an ambassador for British music in Albania seem to cement the idea, that ‘this is no ordinary band ” quotes Maverick Magazine.
Martin’s hunger to explore the world has seen him travel all over the globe on some wild adventures. He lived in a car for a year in Australia while teaching himself slide guitar. To learn self-‐discipline, he took a vow of silence and entered a monastery in Thailand. He played the world’s highest gig, at over 18,000 feet, where he raised money for disadvantaged South Asian children. He rode an old Enfield motorbike across Nepal, where he explored remote villages and learnt about their traditional music. In Mali he got the chance to learn from some of their great musicians such as Bassekou Kouyate and Vieux Farka Touré, son of the world—famous Ali Farka Touré.
“He sang and played with such spine-tingling beauty on a lap steel” said The Times when reviewing one of Martin’s gigs. The Martin Harley Band's wealth of experience, superb musicianship and gift for captivating an audience with lyrics as vivid as their melodies, all make a Martin Harley Band gig one of the most captivating
of any year.

Friday 25th May
Dub Pistols
The evolution of the Dub Pistols has been fascinating to watch since Barry Ashworth first bust out in 1996 as fully-formed party animals declaring ‘There’s Gonna Be A Riot’. While their live show continued to whip up unbridled mayhem and build a healthy worldwide following through relentless touring, the records took their own path, moving swiftly on from initial big beat whoopee into celebrations of two lifetimes of musical obsessions, the reggae-punk implications of the Dub Pistols moniker just the launch-pad.
The Dub Pistols formed in the mid-90s out of the chaos and energy erupting from the Heavenly Social-spawned big beat scene. Barry Ashworth had been in indie-dance outfit Deja Vu, who scored with their cover of the Woodentops’ ‘Why Why Why’, while Jason was half of Wall Of Sound duo Ceasefire with noted reprobate Derek Dahlarge.
The pair appreciated the vast musical earthquakes going back to the late 50s when ska was born, determined to mirror their wildly-diverse tastes in similar fashion to heroes like The Clash and Specials, who spectacularly broke out of punk’s confines to embrace other musical forms like reggae. The first Dub Pistols singles appeared on Deconstruction offshoot Concrete, roof-raising outings like ‘...Riot’, ‘Cyclone’ and ‘Westway’. Soon their live shows were turning into much more than decks, DATs and the odd cheerleader. A full Dub Pistols live band booted off, swiftly blowing up in the US while back home in the UK they sometimes had trouble detaching themselves from the big beat aftermath.
1998’s debut album, ‘Point Blank’, helped, hoisting Barry and Jason into remix work which included Moby, Ian Brown and Crystal Method [most recently Lily Allen] plus video games and soundtrack work, including a track for Blade 2 with Busta Rhymes.
The Dub Pistols’ punky-reggae party rages on, now doing damage with one of the year’s most potent musical brews, firing sugar-coated bullets at any recession depression. Their time has surely come.

Saturday 26th May
Willy Mason
Nina Violet
With a sound that recalls Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash along with the cynicism of grunge and punk, nobody could believe wry singer/songwriter Willy Mason was only 19 when he appeared on the indie scene. Born and raised on Martha's Vineyard, Mason grew up with his parents' love of folk music. He loved it, too, but his teen years brought Nirvana and Rage Against the Machine into his life. Mason found their political and social messages much easier to identify with and soon combined folk's softer and loose delivery with the revolutionary attitude of his new heroes.
Writing came easy now and the teenager had plenty of self-penned material ready when a family friend asked Mason to appear on his local radio show. As luck would have it, Sean Foley -- an associate of Conor Oberst and his band, Bright Eyes -- was driving through Cape Cod as Mason was on the air. Foley was captivated by Mason's song "Oxygen" and left his phone number at the radio station, setting off a chain of events that would have Oberst and Mason hanging out, doing gigs together, and touring America.
With only three people in the audience, a gig at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, TX, seemed a disaster until one of the three introduced himself as BBC DJ Zane Lowe. Lowe was also captivated by "Oxygen" and added it to his playlist when it appeared on Mason's debut, Where the Humans Eat, released by Team Love in 2004. Critics were positive about the album and unanimously shocked that the literate writer and performer of these songs was only 19. Tours with Rosanne Cash, My Morning Jacket, Evan Dando, Beth Orton, and labelmates Jenny Lewis & the Watson Twins increased the fan base and influenced the Astralwerks label to pick up the debut.
Astralwerks reissued Where the Humans Eat in early 2006 with bonus tracks and videos added to the original album. That same year Mason assembled a band that included Nina Violet and cousin Zak Borden, and in 2007 his sophomore record, If the Ocean Gets Rough, came out.
