The Electric Comedy Club
Type: Performance
Sunday 13 May at 7.45pm
£8.50 (advance)
Feeling woeful about the budget this April? Well here at The Electric Theatre we’re practically giving it away. By it we mean top notch comedy of course. We’ve squeezed more into our comedy club night, giving you four comedians for the price of three. Never fear though, we haven’t compromised on quality. In May we’re very excited about Chortle’s Comedy Newcomer 2012 - Pat Cahill, whilst in June we welcome back TV regular Zoe Lyons. Heading toward Edinburgh Festival time we’ve got some incredible previews by Andi Osho and the hilarious (and hygienic) Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre. As always our comedy shows regularly sell out. You could say they’re selling faster than pre budget pasties!
The first Comedy Club of the summer is on Sunday 13 May. It’s perhaps a stretch to suggest New Zealand comic Andre King has travelled half way around the world just for The Electric Comedy Club. However, technically we are the reason he’s staying. Andre loves the UK audiences and has become a much loved part of the comedy circuit. A magician, actor and one time children’s entertainer, Andre has most definitely taken a detour to the dark side. Recently nominated for ‘Most Offensive Gag’ Andre’s material is punchy, crowd pleasing stuff.
For eight years Martin Coyote has been a pivotal member of the Comedy Store’s flagship topical show. A seasoned writer and performer Martin’s credits include ‘Bring Me The Head Of Light Entertainment’ (Channel 5) ‘Loose Talk’ (Radio 1) and successful UK tours – including three sell out tours with Lee Hurst. “Criminally underrated. A truly great writer and performer” - Time Out
Rising star Stephen Bailey is a performer with attitude. Bursting with energy he’s made quite the impression on audiences and TV celebs alike – Matthew Wright (The Wright Stuff) “He’s very funny, very funny” and Laura Whitmore (I’m A Celebrity get Me Out Of here) “This boy is hilarious and had me in stitches”. Definitely the darling of last year’s Edinburgh Festival, Stephen is much in demand and we’re delighted he’ll be previewing some of his material here at The Electric Comedy Club.
Combining off-beat jokes with songs about dying pets (believe us this is funny and yet touching), Pat Cahill has come to the attention of many a comedy fan. Spurred on by accolades from comedy’s great and good – including a 2012 newcomer award, Pat has set the bar very high indeed for all those setting out in the business. Surreal, witty and just plain funny, Pat is reason enough to buy a ticket, and believe us this guy is going to be huge!
Finally our compeer for the evening is heckler kryptonite Rob Hitchmough. After fourteen years of making audiences laugh (and wish they hadn’t shouted from the back), Rob still gets a real kick from live comedy, and it shows. Intelligent, whimsical and utterly charming he’s the perfect MC and we’re delighted to have him back.
