We are absolutely flattered and delighted to announce that The Medicine Garden has won the 2011 Countryside Alliance Enterprise Award for the South East of England.
Paul Studholme, who founded the garden, will be attending the winner’s reception at the House of Lords in March when we will also go into the grand final with the chance of adding overall title to this one. There will be ten, enterprise winners competing from all over England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. It’s fingers crossed all round. The awards are nick-named The Rural Oscars and are run by The Countryside Alliance Foundation and have been created to champion those that have gone out of their way to bring life into rural communities. The enterprise award is specifically aimed at enterprises that have breathed new life into the community, where there is passionate commitment from the owner with a different and inspiring concept as well as saving something that might otherwise be lost. A massive thank you to everyone involved that has helped get The Medicine Garden to the stage it is now especially our valued patrons. We look forward to growing together in the community for many years to come.
The Medicine Garden is a historic victorian walled kitchen garden, which was derelict when Paul took it on. He has spent the last 6 years lovingly restoring it so that the local and surrounding community can come and enjoy some good medicine within its magnificent walls. Since it opened to the public it has hosted several successful community events and has a packed event’s calendar planned for 2012 including being one of the beacons for the Queen’s jubilee. On site it welcomes visitors on a daily basis to its hot house cafe, treatment room, farm and garden shops. It provides space to seventeen small business owners who form a vibrant community in the converted outhouses.
