The London 2012 Olympic Games have begun.  Whether you are coming from afar, planning to commute to the games or escaping the capital during this time, there is no better place to be than Surrey.

Congratulations to the three British cyclists who secured Gold, Siliver and Bonze medals in the cycling events held in Surrey

On Friday 20th July the Olympic Torch was carried by more than 50 torchbearers as it  travelled through Surrey and ended with an evening celebration in Guildford attended by 25,000 people from across the county.

Surrey played host to the Olympic Road Cycling Road Races.  The Road Races started on The Mall in central London.  The riders then raced around a course that passes through six London boroughs before heading into Surrey and through or near towns, including Walton, Weybridge, Byfleet, West Byfleet, Pyrford, Ripley, West Horsley, Gomshall, Dorking including a 9.6 mile loop around Box Hill 9 times for the men and twice for the women.  The race then continued towards Leatherhead, Oxshott, Esher and Hampton Court before riders return to Central London for the finish.

Men's and Women's Olympic Time Trials -  Wednesday 1st August

The Olympic Cycling Time Trial event took place in Surrey where Great Britain secured a Gold and a Bronze Olympic medal.

This was a race against the clock over a distance of 44km for men and 29km for women: riders started 90 seconds apart with the time trail route starting and finished at Hampton Court Palace.
