Relish
Type: Restaurant
Great British dishes make a comeback at Relish, a new brasserie-style restaurant in the heart of Guildford. The vibe is relaxed dining, the style cool contemporary with a patriotic dash, whilst the menu features nostalgic flavours and comforting favourites.
The menu has been created with the finest seasonal ingredients in mind, much of which is sourced in and around Surrey, whilst those from further afield proudly boast their illustrious provenance, from Applewood smoked Cheddar and Cornish Mackerel to Brixham Crab and Whitby Potted Shrimps.
The globally renowned designer, Rabih Hage, has created the interior of this new Guildford restaurant, contrasting tactile dark wood tables and button back leather banquets and chairs on a dark wood floor, with wall coverings depicting theatrical sets and scenes, tapping into the wider theme of performance which runs throughout the hotel. The pièce de resistance is a long elegant copper topped bar.
Executive Chef, Steve White, whose previous kitchens have included Danesfield House and the Montagu Arms, gives a modern twist to timeless specials such as Fish and chips Yorkshire style cooked in beef dripping, pan fried cod wrapped in Oxspring cured ham with pea puree and lardons, whilst also rediscovering classics like calves liver with bacon and Irish champ potatoes, plus Bakewell Tart and steamed apple and ginger pudding.
Day time dining features a delicious selection of sandwiches, plus fine teas, great coffee, crumpets and pastries, whilst in the In the evening the bar is the place to share a carafe of wine, a refreshing gin and tonic or a locally brewed cask beer, accompanied by a light ploughman’s or homemade pork pie, all served with the restaurant’s signature relish.
