Highview is a comfortable bed and breakfast run by Sue and John Petty in their Victorian family home. It was set up in 2003 after we had lived and worked abroad.
Since then we have held the 3 diamonds ratings awarded by the Visit Britain national quality assurance scheme. Recently we received an award under the green Tourism Business Scheme in recognition of our efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our business.
We have 2 large well proportioned bedrooms sharing the guest bathroom, all situated on the first floor of the house.
This has been extensively modernised over the past few years but great care has always been taken to retain or restore many of the original decorative features.
For the convenience of our guests we have installed such features as a wireless internet connection ("wifi"). Guest bedrooms have double glazed windows and thermostatic radiator controls. Both rooms have TV/video as well as radio-alarm clocks and tea/coffee making facilities.
As far as possible all our produce is locally sourced and/or organic. We offer the traditional full English breakfast or a lighter continental alternative.
Highview is conveniently situated for travel by train from London or Portsmouth and less than 1 hour by road from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Goldaming town centre with a good range of shops and eating places is 15 minutes walk away. It is in the heart of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), one of England's national parks since 1958. It was the birthplace of Jack Philips, the Titanics wireless operator, and a memorial garden to him can be found in the town centre. James Oglethorpe, the soldier-politician founder of georgia, USA, was also born here. In 1881 Goldalming became the first town in the world to have electric public street lighting.
Goldalming is home to Charterhouse School, approximately one mile from highview.
Guildford is one of the premier shopping centres in the south of England and is only 5 minutes by train. The excellent Yvonne Arnaud theatre will be found here as well as many historical buildings.
