Come and experience this large area of woodland and downland with outstanding views across the Waeld to the South Downs. Box Hill (named as such because it is the major site in Britain for naturally occurring Box woodland, having forty percent of the national population) became famous in the 19C when Jane Austen used it as the site for a picnic in her novel 'Emma'. Since the Londoners have visited here as a day trip to the countryside. Bring along a picnic of your own and follow in the footsteps of Jane Austen's characters orjust enjoy a walk with beautiful views.

Box Hill is probably the best known part of the North Downs boasting over a dozen species of orchid and many species of butterfly, including rarities such as the Adonis blue and silver spotted skipper.

There are way-marked trails, a picnic area and an information centre.
