The Lightbox - Art turned on, history lit up.
The Lightbox is an exciting new gallery and museum for the south east. Designed by Marks Barfield Architects, creators of the London Eye, the stunning building will be home to ‘Woking’s Story’, a permanent museum of Woking’s history and 2 temporary galleries showing a changing programme of exhibitions.
The Lightbox also has a waterside garden, with stunning views along the Basingstoke canal, a cafe and a gift shop, featuring unusual and locally crafted products.
Opening on 15 September 2007, The Lightbox’s first exhibition will be ‘Animated Adventures’, a behind the scenes look at Aardman Studios, the company founded by former Woking Grammar students David Lord and Peter Sproxton. The exhibition features fantastic original sets from the Oscar winning film ‘Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit’, plus exclusive material from the new CBBC series ‘Shaun the Sheep’.
Visitors who come on an animated adventure at The Lightbox will be able to have a go at creating their own mini movie, adding sound effects and making their own plasticine models to take home with them. Alongside the exhibition there will be a fun-packed programme of events from family workshops to celebrity lectures, guaranteed to get everyone animated! Small charge payable.
