Surrey has a multitude of events happening throughout the year and is lucky enough to host some of the region’s best-loved festivals too. Music of all kinds, literature, arts and crafts, agriculture, transport (on land and water!), sport, antiques… Surrey offers the very best of national and international fare for your enjoyment.
From spring to autumn, live music and drama can be found indoors and out, whether classical, contemporary, rock, opera or proms style! Literature-lovers can enjoy book festivals, with readings, talks and special signings or, if you prefer sports, visit the county’s cricket ground to hear leather on willow, or one of our numerous racecourses for a flutter. Alternatively, visit the birthplace of British motor sport and aviation for festivals with a difference!
We are justifiably proud in having the UK’s largest agricultural event taking place in Surrey every May Bank Holiday, when the County Show brings the best of British livestock, international entertainers and local produce together for a fantastic family day out.
The arts are alive and well in Surrey, with annual drama and dance festivals taking place in many of our major towns, celebrating local talent alongside world famous stars. Our county’s cultural diversity means a wealth of fine cuisines and cultural activities to enjoy, whether it’s watching a performance of traditional dance or browsing exotic market stalls.
In September, the county’s doors are thrown open to residents and visitors alike when Heritage Open Days takes place. The annual event showcases the finest historic buildings and locations, many of which are not usually open to the public, allowing everyone a glimpse of life in times gone by.
Other seasonal festivals include canal boats at Easter, arts, crafts and music in the summer, lanterns and fireworks in autumn and festive celebrations at the end of the year, to name but a few. What better reason do you need to visit Surrey?
