The Crafts Study Centre is a specialist university museum open free to the public as well as a research centre of the University for the Creative Arts.

The Centre's acclaimed collections include modern and contemporary calligraphy, ceramics, textiles, furniture and wood as well as makers' diaries, working notes and photographs dating from the 1920s. Inspiring exhibitions and gallery talks by leading artist-makers are held year round in our two galleries.

The Centre fosters scholarship and writing about modern and contemporary craft through this website and publishing new books and monographs and hosts one academic symposium a year.

The Centre's research library is available by appointment for those interested in learning more about our collections.

Road Directions

Because of the complicated one-way system, the easiest route is from the west, on the A325 leading into West Street. You reach the A325 via a roundabout on the A31 Farnham bypass (which means carrying on beyond the town centre if you are coming from the Guildford side of town). Proceed along the A325 towards the town centre, and turn left up The Hart to Falkner Road where you can see the Crafts Study Centre to the left of the main entrance of the University College for the Creative Arts.

Public Transport Directions

Stagecoach Bus 64 Guildford to Winchester. From The Borough stop, west 150m, turn right at The Hart, continue 100m, road meets Falkner Road. The Centre is just left of the long walkway entrance to the University.

Train: London Waterloo for Farnham. Ten-minute walk from station to the Study Centre. Walk down Station Hill, cross the A31, continue down South St, left into Union Rd, which bears right into Downing St. Continue to West Street, turn left, after 200m turn right into The Hart.
