Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punch Bowl
Type: Viewpoint
Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punch Bowl are a remarkable landscape.
The common is a significant habitat for heathland loving animals and birds whilst the huge natural basin which gives the Devil’s Punch Bowl its name is a true wilderness. With its large swathes of lowland heath, it’s Europe’s largest spring-eroded valley. Now a unified landscape since the A3 has been redirected under a tunnel, visitors can enjoy the peace and quiet of this fascinating landscape.
The café at the Devil’s Punch Bowl serves hot lunches, sandwiches, cakes and cream teas daily. There’s plenty of seating, both inside and out so it’s fine to have muddy boots or an even muddier dog!
