Painshill is a great family day out and a beautiful 18th century landscape garden to visit. The 158 acre wonderland has something for everyone. Discover the mystical follies, historic plantings, the John Bartram Heritage Collection of North American trees and shrubs (Plant Heritage, NCCPG), and some of Surrey’s amazing wildlife.
You can spend a whole day at Painshill or there are shorter accessible routes around the Serpentine Lake. Dogs on short leads are welcome. Bring a picnic or visit Hamilton’s Tea Room. Visit the Painshill Shop for gifts, greeting cards and to buy a bottle of the exclusive Painshill Sparkling Wine
Painshill holds events throughout the year including lectures, workshops, family fun days and school holiday activities including the popular Explorer Summer Camp.
The rare and unrivalled 18th century crystal Grotto has been restored. It is truly an exceptional example of an 18th century grotto in its entire and original form. The heritage project has been made possible thanks to private trusts, and to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) who awarded Painshill Park Trust a grant of £747,400 for restoration works in 2011.
The crystal Grotto – which promises to attract international visitors and garden architecture specialists to Painshill – will be open at weekends (1pm – 4pm) from June 29th 2013. It will also feature in the pre-bookable Painshill Historic Tour (available to groups weekdays from July 2013) and be used as an educational resource for schools and colleges.
