Hello Dorking Celebrates Mayflower 2020
1st July 2020
This summer the Dorking Town Partnership has entered the In bloom competition under the title ‘Hello Dorking Celebrates Mayflower 2020’ . To mark this event there are over 100 patriotic hanging baskets on the lampposts and properties as well as six beautiful Mayflower boat planters in locations around the town.
These planters were designed, built and installed by the amazing Dorking Men’s Shed team from Hampstead Road headed by David Tobitt, with a local Rose Hill House resident Patti Lister growing from seed and plug the most amazing array of plants. They have been painted the blue NHS colour in honour of all those local NHS staff who have bravely worked tirelessly to look after the sick during these unprecedented times. The boats are all individually named after the Mullins family and residents who left Dorking and sailed on the Mayflower to America in 1620.
The United Reform Church in West Street has also supported the DTP in bloom entry with a beautiful Mayflower sunrise flower display as well as opening its garden with a prayer tree to offer those a quiet place for reflection and prayer.
