About
The National Trust cares for over 4000 hectares of countryside in the Surrey Hills and forms part of the Surrey Hills Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB). You can visit popular attractions such as Box Hill, Leith Hill, Frensham Little Pond, and Hindhead Commons and Devils Punch Bowl or hidden gems like Limpsfield Common, Headley Heath, and Witley and Milford Commons.
With conservation at our core, all our countryside locations provide an opportunity to explore wildlife and nature. Frensham Little Pond is the perfect place to spot common and rare birds whilst Denbies Hillside is home to a large variety of butterflies. Or why not visit the ancient woodlands at Harewoods or Abinger Roughs - a perfect place for a young explorer to discover nature.
With spectacular views across the region, our places are the perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There are miles of walking trails and waymarked routes to explore and at Box Hill, Frensham and Hindhead you’ll find our ever-popular cafes. Alternatively, you can bring a picnic, sit just about anywhere, and soak up the breathtaking landscapes.
Many of our places are accessible too. Hindhead Commons and Devils Punch Bowl boasts a Changing Places toilet facility and an all-weather track that is suitable for prams and wheelchairs. At Box Hill, a mountain trike is also available to hire.
Our mission is to protect these countryside places for future generations. We are constantly surveying and managing the land keeping them accessible, improving biodiversity and helping nature thrive.
