Blow away the cobwebs on The Discovery Walk, Priory Farm’s beautiful countryside trail with a surprise at every turn. The children's nature quiz will keep the youngsters happy as they rush from clue to clue while grown-ups take in the splendid views - and learn a thing or two about nature along the way.

The Discovery Walk, opened in 2007 to mark the Shinner family’s 50th anniversary of owning Priory Farm, has now matured into a unique destination that has families flocking to the farm all year round.

Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the attraction is deep in the South Nutfield countryside a short drive from Redhill. Visitors follow a path that meanders up a gentle slope, through ancient woodlands and taking in such delights as an observation platform with far-reaching views across the Downs to Gatwick, a seasonal sunflower maize, a bird hide, a monks’ tunnel, a slithery labyrinth, and hungry fish and ducks always ready to gobble up the farm-approved food that is on sale at the ticket booth. Not to mention the giant’s chair, wibbly wobbly bridge and three bears’ house, all handcrafted at the farm – and all as unique as the walk itself.

The route is navigated by way of the nature trail – children follow the numbered clues and answer questions about such topics as animals, insects and the climate. The trail changes twice a year (spring/summer and autumn/winter), so it’s always fresh, and there are two levels: one for pre-readers, and one for children of up to around age 11, although there are plenty of facts for everyone to learn a thing or two!

Priory Farm is a truly lovely place for a day out, and so do allow time to enjoy refreshments from Wendy’s cabin, which sells hot and cold drinks, ices and snacks. There is even a pirate’s ship in the garden there, which youngsters enjoy scrambling around and setting sail in the imaginary ocean, which would have been a real sea millions of years ago, as you will learn when you visit the Discovery Walk and read about fossils.

Once suitably refreshed, make your way over to the award-winning Priory Farm Shop, which sells everything you need for dinner, as well as a fabulous selection of gifts, cookware, candles and more.

School trips, birthday parties and groups are welcome on The Discovery Walk by prior arrangement.

Buggies – all-weather buggies are fine on the walk, unless it’s been exceptionally wet, in which case the tracks can get muddy. Wheelchairs – only the first, flattest part of the walk is suitable for wheelchair-users, who are admitted free-of-charge. Dogs are not permitted.
