August Bank Holiday Weekend - Things to do, Events and Activities in Surrey
Saturday 28 - Monday 30 August 2021
Okay, so we might be a little biased at Visit Surrey, but we really think there's no better place to be over the August bank holiday weekend than in Surrey.
From hiring your own boat and drifting down the River Thames with GoBoat to indulging in delicious food and drink in the great outdoors with the multi award-winning sustainably minded cooks, The Salt Box, there's so much to do here in our beautiful county.
Here, we've picked some brilliant ideas to keep you entertained and help to make the most of your three day weekend.
Please do remember to pre-book to avoid disappointment, and always check the venue's website and/or social media before you travel to avoid for the latest updates.
Take a look at our Visit Surrey suggestions below.
- Step on board Concorde
Head to the award-winning Brooklands Museum in Weybridge where you will find the only accessible Concorde in south east England. See, hear and feel Concorde as you enjoy a virtual flight like no other. Pre-booking is highly recommended, as the tours book up very quickly. - Explore arts and crafts
Watts Gallery in Compton is a lovely Arts & Crafts destination showcasing the great talent and art works by Victorian artists Mary and GF Watt. It is truly one of Surrey's hidden treasures for art lovers and inquisitive minds. - Enjoy a day at RHS Garden Wisley
For a fantastic day out for all the family, head to RHS Garden Wisley and take a stroll around the spectacular gardens. Enjoy themed crafts, garden games and storytelling and more. - For the adventurous
Go and enjoy Surrey's amazing new outdoor adventure park, Skywalk Adventure. Pick up some speed on the zip wire, clamber across rickety bridges and test your balance on the tightropes. All the while enjoying breathtaking views over Sandown Park Racecourse, and right across London. - Breathe in the air
With your camera in hand, head off to enchanting Painshill in Cobham, with its crystal grotto, waterwheel, and mystical follies or make a visit to the inspiring The Sculpture Park near Churt, where you will find over 800 pieces of sculpture waiting for you to discover. - Sample some Surrey wine
Taste some locally produced fine wine and enjoy a tour of Denbies Wines Estate at Dorking. You can watch a short film on the history of the winery, take a tour of the sprawling vineyard (while imagining you're in an exotic corner of Bordeaux) and, of course, sample some wine. - Search out a picnic spot
Get your blankets and baskets of Surrey food and drink at the ready and head outdoors for a picnic in Surrey. A short walk or cycle anywhere in Surrey normally leads to a suitably secluded picnicing spot - just please remember to take any rubbish home with you and not to use portable barbecues. Alternatively, Polesden Lacey makes for a beautiful backdrop or, of course, there's the world famous Box Hill (although be warned it can get busy, especially on bank holiday weekends!). For a few more suggestions take a look at our best picnic spots page. - Enjoy some water sports
The Aqua Sports Company is a lake-based watersports centre set in the beautiful Mercers Park on the doorstep of Redhill, south east London and Gatwick. Their dedicated, friendly team of instructors just love being out on the water teaching dinghy sailing, paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing and windsurfing to children and adults.
