Map & Directions

Road Directions

There is easy access from the Guildford by-pass (A3). If approaching from London or Portsmouth take the exit signed to Cathedral and University.

From the A3 roundabout there is no foot path heading to the Cathedral, so please be careful of pedestrians walking up the approach.

Recent changes to the Highway Code require drivers turning off a main road to give way to Pedestrians who are waiting to cross a minor road rather than actually in the process of crossing. The Cathedral Approach from the West (the Roundabout) is potentially dangerous as a result - both from colliding with a pedestrian or having a vehicle stop suddenly and close in front of a following vehicle. Visiting drivers are requested to exercise extra care following this change.

There is a cycle rack behind the Cathedral office.

If approaching on the A322 or A323 from Bagshot or Aldershot, at the A3 roundabout take the exit signed to Portsmouth and turn off the A3 at the first exit (signed to Cathedral and University).

If entering Guildford from Horsham (A281) or Godalming (A3100), leave the central gyratory system at the exit marked Farnham (A31). After crossing the railway bridge take the first turning right into Guildford Park Road and continue along Madrid Road and The Chase for 3/4 mile. At the roundabout, take the fourth exit for the Cathedral entrance.

Visitors to the Cathedral, Shop and Cafe, and permit holders, may park free of charge for up to two hours. If you are here for longer than two hours your parking can be extended by a member of staff in either the Cathedral Shop or Cafe when you make a purchase, or by a colleague in the Cathedral Office.

Occasionally parking attendants will be on duty in order to preserve spaces for visitors and permit holders only. Coach drivers should contact 01483 547862 for information prior to their visit.

Public Transport Directions

By rail
Guildford Railway Station is served by regular trains to/from London Waterloo and Victoria, Portsmouth, Reading, Gatwick Airport, Haselmere and Ascot. There is also a daily CrossCountry service to/from Newcastle via Birmingham. For information on train times call 08457 484950, see the National Rail Journey Planner, or use the 'Public Transport' option on the route-finder (above).

Take the Guildford Park Road exit out of the station. Turn right onto Guildford Park Road, at Ridgemount turn right following the pedestrian signs for the Cathedral. It is a 10 minute up-hill walk from the back of the station to the Cathedral.

By bus
There is not a public bus route that comes up to the Cathedral; however, there are several routes that stop at the bottom of Stag Hill, leaving a 5 minute up-hill walk to the Cathedral.

Routes 3, 27 and 37 go through the University, the pedestrian route to the Cathedral from the University is well sign-posted from campus

Routes 4 (to Guildford Bus Station past the Railway Station) & 5 (from the Bus Station past the Railway Station) go along Madrid Road to the bottom of Cathedral approach.
