REVIEW: Hidden away in a 27-acre woodland, Seven Hills restaurant, bar and terrace is somehow simultaneously only minutes' away from the A3 and M25 and yet found in the middle of its own peaceful solitude at Hilton Cobham.
Located right in the middle of a triangle of top Surrey attractions (RHS Garden Wisley, Brooklands Museum and Painshill), it's certainly an appealing destination, whether you're looking for a base to explore Surrey or just a cosy night out.
Hilton Cobham also acts as a gateway to the Surrey Hills National Landscape to the south and Surrey’s Beverly Hills, as some refer to the borough of Elmbridge, immediately to the north - a place that is regularly named among the most desirable places to live in the country.
A warm welcome
Visit Surrey drops by on a midweek evening in late-autumn. It's hibernation weather outside but inside there's a warm glow to welcome guests out from the cold.
It's a long time since hotels could get by on a purely practical hospitality offering and at Hilton Cobham there is a stylish lounge, informal eatery and a vibrant restaurant all wrapped around a large and well-stocked bar. Each area feels independent to one another, and the expansive terrace outside can be seen appealingly through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
As well as serving people travelling in from afar and the business community, Seven Hills restaurant welcomes guests looking to take advantage of its idyllic location for family meals and date nights.
Fresh flavours
The food itself is full of fresh flavours and beautifully presented. The salmon is pretty as a picture; the squid addictive with zing; the risotto and curry both deep and flavourful; the cheesecake a delight; and the cheeseboard bountiful.
We speak to one of the kitchen team and get the sense that there’s an ambition at Seven Hills to elevate things even further - and the regularly changing specials menu certainly nods towards even more exciting things to come.
As part of our visit, our host, Elena, offers us the opportunity to taste a glass of Pommery Champagne alongside its younger English cousin, Louis Pommery sparkling wine. It's an interesting reflection on how quickly English sparkling wine has become an expected part of a drinks list, rather than a surprise.
Suffice to say that our first visit to Seven Hills restaurant at Hilton Cobham was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and we look forward to revisiting in the warmer months for cocktails on the terrace.
