Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden

Nestled in a woodland valley just outside the village of Ockley lies a sculpture garden unlike any other.

Created more than 35 years ago, the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden exhibits an ever-changing collection of contemporary sculpture throughout the magical gardens.

Surrounding a 15th century, Grade 2 listed cottage, the grounds have been lovingly restored and reinvented over the past 40 years by owner and renowned landscape designer Anthony Paul.

Using a palette of broadleaved, architectural plants, ponds, and mature trees, Anthony and his wife Hannah Peschar have created a truly unique and magical environment. 

In the early 1980’s, Hannah Peschar created the Sculpture Garden - seeing an opportunity to create something distinctive and truly special within the garden.

Over the past 35 years, the Sculpture Garden has continued to display a huge variety of contemporary sculpture from artists across the UK and Europe.

Placement is key - each sculpture is carefully sited in harmony with its surroundings. It might be how a tree or branch frames a piece, how textures or colours are mirrored from art to nature, or how the sun and shadows will interact with a sculpture throughout the day.

The relationship between art and nature is fundamental to the Sculpture Garden, and this synergy gives the garden an atmosphere unlike any other.

Artists come far and wide to exhibit their work each year. A plethora of materials, themes and ideas awaits visits - some out in clear view and others cleverly nestled amongst the dramatic fauna. Each sculpture (or series of sculpture) is given their own space - allowing the viewer to explore and appreciate each piece individually.

Visitors are given a photographic guide to carry with them; describing a route to follow and hopefully ensuring none of the works on display are missed.

With 50+ artists displaying around 200 pieces each year, the collection is sure to captivate and inspire.

Launched in summer 2022, The Indoor Gallery at the Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden seeks to celebrate a new collection of smaller sculpture, ceramics and pieces too delicate to be displayed outside.
