Guildford has a rich and varied cultural scene. The Yvonne Arnaud theatre hosts national touring productions. Outdoor venues are integral to Guildford’s cultural scene during the summer months offering a variety of beautiful backdrops for performances of plays and music. With such a breadth of locations, it is little surprise that Guildford has become a focus for festivals and events.
Guildford Book Festival was established in 1989 to stimulate interest in every aspect of the written word. The festival hosts authors from across the literary spectrum in a series of over 50 events in the town each October. Surrey Hills International Music Festival has made its mark both locally and on a global stage, attracting top international soloists and ensembles.
All year-round, the cobbled (always referred to as cobbles but they are officially setts) High Street plays host to a monthly Farmers’ Market and several other markets including vintage, craft and food & drink
